Awai takes its title from a Japanese term describing a state of in-betweenness, a space that is neither fixed nor entirely absent.

Shot on 16mm film during a residency in Tokyo, the work moves through the city’s thresholds and transitional spaces, where anonymity and intimacy, nature and architecture, presence and disappearance briefly coexist.
